What a week it has been...
The campers that left yesterday bear little resemblance to those that arrived a week ago.  I feel that the campers who left yesterday were more confident than those that arrived.  They've gained a tonne of experience that can only come from living in close quarters with their peers, and have learned new things that you simply can't learn anywhere but camp.  And yes, they may be a little more tired, and a little dirtier than when they arrived....but those tired and dirty faces all had big smiles on them for most of the week!
This week had many highlights, my personal favourite being Camp Wenonah Little Theatre (CWLT) - we had some fantastic song and dance performances from all areas of camp, but our very own Kivita campers definitely made the highlight reel!  It was fantastic to see the shy kids that got off the bus, break out of their shells and dazzle with their performances.
Its been a tough week in terms of weather, but the campers were tougher.  I don't ever remember having colder weather in August, but that didn't deter anyone.  Although we moved some activities away from the water, and a few others shifted indoors, we managed to get everyone a good taste of as many aspects of camp as we could.
We wrapped up the week
on Friday evening with our closing campfire and slideshow - a chance for quiet reflection on the week we all shared together.  I had the pleasure of seeing the slideshow from a unique perspective - looking out at all the campers faces as they saw the pictures on the screen.  It was remarkable to see the smiles, laughs, and even some tears as we all relived some of our favourite memories from the week.
It was tough to say good bye to everyone yesterday morning, but I know that this week has been an incredible experience for the campers that were here, and the staff at Wenonah that were lucky enough to work with them.
Wishing you all an enjoyable rest of the summer, and great year ahead.  I can't wait to see everyone again next year!
