Tuesday reflection - transformation

Dear Friends and Families. image It is another warm and lovely day at camp and there is a momentum as the week progresses and campers settle into their home away from home. As I reflect on what makes camp feel so special and why we connect so deeply with it, it is clear that camp is a unique and special place, one that creates the perfect environment for transformation.  I often think about the transformative experience that occurs at camp.  On the one hand, camp is messy, the food is different than your beloved home food, it is noisy, you share a bunk with many other kids, all your personal belongings and stuff are away, no screens (!!!), you are encouraged to test your limits, you reside in a place of solitude and growth, a place to try new activities, to explore, to find nature, and so much more. Camp provides a natural space where you are required to dig deep, be brave, be independent, make choices, learn from others,  rely on peers for support and to share laughter with. Camp is about finding inner fortitude to try something new, improve on the old, share something, or just find time alone to just be. There is a connection so special and meaningful that builds both with the beautiful physical environment, as well as with our new friends, the counsellors and the team. Camp becomes our home. A few weeks ago when my son was about to go to his summer camp, he said to me 'I'm so excited to go home!" When I asked him what he meant he went on to say 'well it's my second home!'  I felt exactly the same way as a child- camp was truly my home away from home. A place I longed for all year and a place I cried for when the session ended. Camp friends are the most wonderful cherished friends, those who share a common experience and bond. It is this magical special place away from home, where our campers can thrive, have fun, build life long memories that we are so proud to share with your campers. Today our campers are out on the water, participating in sports, arts and crafts, singing songs and so much more. Today is a wonderful day for the magic of camp in our special home away from home. Transplants transform lives - so does camp!   Yours in camping, Stacey On behalf of the camp team
