Update on our Plans for Summer 2021 – CAMP PROGRAM TO BE POSTED MID APRIL 2021
Update – March 16, 2021
Dear Kivita campers, families, friends and supporters,
Every year In January we open registration for summer camp and we know that many of you have questions about our plans for the summer. The Kivita team has always been focused on being transparent, direct and thoughtful in considering how to communicate to our campers and families. The last year has been one of challenges and resilience, hope and loss for our community. Like you, we have eagerly anticipated the coming back together in person to share in the joy and magic of camp.
In this spirit and with very heavy hearts we are writing to share that we will not be able to provide in person camp again this summer due to the ongoing nature of the covid-19 pandemic. Your health and safety are our top priority and there is no scenario in which we can safely provide in person camp this year. We know this news will be extremely frustrating, difficult and challenging and we join you in feeling sad and disappointed as this is a deep loss for all of us. We were excited to meet new friends and catch up with our returning campers. We greatly miss your smiles and laughter, and being together in all the wonder that is our summer camp. We know that you are strong and resilient, but also that each of you have sacrificed so much over the last year.
We want you to know a few important things:
1) We remain 100% committed to our Kivita campers and families – we WILL get back to camp and our dates for summer 2022 are: August 28 – Friday Sept 2, 2022. The kivita magic WILL endure.
2) To our oldest campers and leaders-in-training – those who would have had their final summer last year or this year – Next year we will expand our age cutoff so that you can come back to camp for your final summer – this is our promise to you.
3) We will be launching our virtual programming in the spring. We know there is a strong need for connection and continuity and we are going to ensure you have a platform to reconnect this summer – friends from across the province, and new ones across Canada will have a chance to participate. In the late Spring we will launch our Kivita Virtual Youth and Leadership Academy. This will include:
1) A dedicated online space for registered campers to gather with fun events such as ‘evening campfires – singsong, storytelling, other programming (arts and crafts and games night), Special events like Inspirational Speakers and wellness activities, as well as camper-led programs. Please let us know if you want to get involved with the planning.
2) A Leadership Academy for our Leaders In Training (ages 15-18) including dedicated programming and leadership skills training, Peer mentors from former camp graduates/leaders, and inspirational speakers, run virtually via ZOOM platform. If you would like to get involved please reach out to us; we can discuss opportunities for community service and ways to be involved.
We are excited for Summer 2021 and know that summer 2022 will be epic when we are all back together in person. Please take care of yourselves and your families and we will be in touch soon with more details about our virtual plans.
If you want to talk or need further support please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will be in touch!
Yours in camping,
Emily, Stacey & Christina

Update: September, 2020
The Kivita community is strong and vibrant. While covid-19 forced us to halt our in-person activities in summer 2020, it cannot keep us apart. We are excited to share that will be connecting our transplant community and launching our virtual space in January 2021!
The Kivita Virtual community will offer online programs that reach our campers wherever they are. We will have a space to connect with camp friends and make new ones, build skills, campfires and more to keep us connected together. We will also be launching our virtual leadership academy.
IMPORTANT UPDATE ABOUT SUMMER 2020
Dear Kivita Campers and Families, Friends and Supporters,
We can now share with heavy hearts that we are required to cancel camp kivita for summer 2020. This afternoon there was an announcement regarding cancellation of school for the remainder of the year and overnight summer camps. Over the past week we had independently had some internal discussion and decided that cancelling camp was the right decision going forward regardless of a broad government decision but were waiting to what direction the government and Ontario Camp Association were heading and that news came today.
We are mindful that this is a very difficult decision for everyone involved and that there will be a good deal of sadness felt. We thank you for your ongoing support and commitment to camp. We know that this feels reminiscent of the disappointment we felt a few two years ago when we cancelled due to an outbreak of hand foot and mouth virus, but last year we came back stronger than ever and have no doubt we will do the same next summer. Camper and staff safety is always the most important consideration and while this is obviously a difficult decision it is the correct one given the uncertainty and risks.
We cannot wait until we are together again and are already looking forward to being back together at camp in the summer 2021.
Christina, Stacey and Emily

Camp means everlasting bonds with amazing friends who know the struggles of life. We know that each day is a gift and camp gives us that escape that we need to get our minds off of our health issues. Camp also gives us a chance to do things we may never do which is so much fun!!!kidney transplant recipient
I had a great time at camp. There were so many activities to choose from it was hard to pick. Doing the Leadership in Training program was an amazing experience, we grew and learned a lot. I will definitely be taking some of the skills I learned at camp and applying to my daily lifekidney transplant recipient
Anyone who asks me how my summer this year was has always gotten the same answer – Camp Kivita was definitely the highlight of my summer. I had so much fun doing summer activities and trying new things such as kayaking and archery. The entire experience just meant so much to me because I made many new friends who I could easily relate to since we all had transplants. I loved getting to know people who have been through the same things that I have. I just want to thank all the staff and coordinators at camp kivita, all the nurses and everyone who made transplant camp possible because without them I wouldn’t have had this once in a lifetime experience.kidney transplant recipient
